First time on TwistLab? Choose where to start:

    Online Rubik's cube timer

A speedcubing timer on your phone or computer: hold Space (or your finger on the screen), let go to start and press again when you finish.

    • Official WCA scrambles for every event: 2x2 to 7x7, blindfolded, one-handed, Megaminx, Pyraminx, Skewb, Square-1 and Clock.
    • 15-second inspection as in competition, with 8 and 12 second calls and +2 and DNF penalties.
    • ao5, ao12 and mo3 averages, your best time, a histogram and your progress. Import your times from csTimer or Twisty Timer.
    • With a smart cube (GAN, MoYu, QiYi…) the timer starts when you turn and stops when it is solved, with a breakdown of each CFOP step.
    • Free, no ads and no account: your times are saved in your browser and it works offline.

    What a smart cube is

A speed cube with sensors that sends every turn over Bluetooth. It turns like any other and works without connecting it.

    Connected to TwistLab:

    • The timer starts with your first turn and stops by itself when the cube is solved.
    • Every solve is split into cross, F2L pairs, OLL and PLL, with its time, its turns and its pauses, and it tells you what to improve.
    • It guides you turn by turn when scrambling, and in the Academy it follows your algorithms and corrects you while you practice.
    • "On your cube" tells you the case in front of you and how to solve it.

Solve: the timer and the analysis of every solve →

    Brands that work with TwistLab

TwistLab connects smart cubes of these brands:

    • GAN: they report their state; a gyroscope depending on the model.
    • MoYu (WeiLong AI): they report their state; a gyroscope depending on the model.
    • QiYi (including the X-Man Tornado V4 i): they report their state; a gyroscope depending on the model.
    • GiiKER: their state is read when they connect; no gyroscope.
    • GoCube and Rubik’s Connected: with a gyroscope; they don’t report their state.

Any of them works to time, analyse your solves and practise algorithms. What changes is in the next section.

What to look at when choosing

    That it reports its state

A cube that reports its state (GAN, MoYu, QiYi) tells the app how it is while you turn: if a turn gets lost, it corrects itself. GiiKER reports it when it connects. GoCube and Rubik’s Connected don’t report it: they start by taking themselves as solved. If the cube on screen doesn’t match yours, you solve it by hand and mark it as solved (with a button, or with two full turns of the yellow face in a row).

    The gyroscope

With a gyroscope, the cube on screen follows how you hold it in your hand. Without one, you turn it with the arrows. It isn’t needed for timing or for the analysis.

Everything else, as with any speed cube

Feel, magnets, weight and price are chosen as with a regular cube: the one you like turning. If you already have one of the brands above, connect it before buying another.

    On which phone or computer

The connection uses Bluetooth from the browser (Web Bluetooth):

    • Android, Windows and Mac: with Chrome, Edge or Opera. On Linux, Web Bluetooth may need to be enabled first in chrome://flags.
    • iPhone and iPad: Safari can’t connect a cube. Install Bluefy, a free browser with Bluetooth, and open TwistLab in it.
    • Firefox has no Web Bluetooth.

The first time, some cubes (from GAN, MoYu or QiYi) may ask for their MAC address: TwistLab remembers it for the next times.

A cube connects to one app at a time: if it doesn’t show up in the list, disconnect it from the other app and turn it a little to wake it up.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is it free?

Yes, completely: no ads, no paid version and no limits.

    Do I need an account?

No. You open the site and start: there’s no sign-up. The account is optional and only keeps your progress, to have it on all your devices.

Does it work with my smart cube?

With Bluetooth cubes from GAN, MoYu, QiYi, GiiKER and GoCube, from Chrome or Edge on Android, Windows or macOS (on Linux it may need enabling in chrome://flags): go to Cube and tap Connect. Without a smart cube everything else works (timer, academy and algorithms), and in Paint your cube you copy your cube’s colors to see how to solve it.

    And on iPhone?

The site works in Safari, but Safari has no Bluetooth: to connect a smart cube use Bluefy, a free browser that does.

    How to connect it

    Where is my data stored?

In this browser’s local storage (localStorage). If you clear the browser’s data it’s lost; to keep it or move it to another device, sign in with your email in Progress (it’s saved to your account automatically) or export a backup.

    Go to Progress

    What does the account store?

Only if you sign in with your email: your email, used only to send you the sign-in code (no ads or newsletters), and this app’s progress (times, practice, learning and settings) to have it on your devices. There’s no password; a cookie keeps you signed in for 90 days from your last visit. You can delete the account and everything saved in it in Progress → Account.

    Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first visit, TwistLab opens even without internet: scrambles, the timer and the academy work, because everything is computed on your device. You can install it from the browser menu (Add to Home Screen or Install).

    Who is it for?

For people who have never solved the cube and for those who want to bring their times down: you start with the white cross and the beginner method, move on to reduced CFOP and get to full CFOP (41 F2L, 57 OLL and 21 PLL cases).

Are the scrambles like the WCA’s?

Yes: random-state scrambles for every event, the same kind as the official ones, generated on your device with cubing.js. They aren’t the ones from a specific competition: those are generated for each competition.

    Import times

From csTimer (Export → Export to file) or from Twisty Timer (backup). Each time goes to its event; csTimer sessions of an unknown type go to the selected event. Times you already have aren’t duplicated.
